When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. John 19:30
Jesus uttered those 3 simple words right before he died on the cross. “It is finished” is a legal term that means the debt has been paid – the account has been settled. Jesus said it is finished. He did not say it soon will be finished or it is about to be finished. It was finished on the cross. The account was settled, the debt was paid. Jesus did not have to suffer in Hell. He did not suffer in Hell. That is a false teaching. God poured out his wrath on Jesus for our sins while Christ was on the cross. He paid for our sins on the cross.
