John 19:30 (KJV) When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Some people think when Jesus said it is finished that the way of salvation was complete. But if Jesus had not defeated death by rising from the dead, salvation would not be complete. John is the only one of the gospel writers who records the actual words of Jesus right before he died. All others just say that Jesus cried with a loud voice. John is also the only one who calls Jesus the lamb of God. When Jesus cried out “It is finished,” he was saying that his task of being the sacrifice for sin, the lamb of God, was finished. Jesus still had the task of being the high priest of God.
