Ears and tongues

Proverbs 17:4 A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.

If you listen to false lips – if you listen to lies, you are a wicked doer. It doesn’t say you are wicked if you are the one telling the lies; it says if you listen to the lies you are wicked.

The second part of the verse says if you listen to a naughty tongue, you are a liar. Not if you have a naughty tongue, but if you listen to a naughty tongue.

Open ears are just as bad as a loose tongue. Before you condemn and scorn one who spreads gossip, you better examine yourself and see if you are guilty of listening to lies and gossip.
