Psalm 127:3-5 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. 4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. 5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
Most of the times, people will quote the first part of verse 3 and the first part of verse 5 but won’t ever mention verse 4 or the last part of verse 5. We miss something very important when we do that. Look at verse 4. Our children are like arrows in the hand of a mighty man. A mighty man is skillful with the bow and uses the arrows to defeat the enemy. We need to train our children – to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord – so that they can be used by God to defeat the enemy. If we raise our children correctly, our children will not be ashamed (verse 5) and they will be effective witnesses to the enemies in the gate. Telling our children not to talk to strangers is something Satan wants – we should let our children talk to strangers because it is out of the mouth of babes that God has ordained strength (Psalms 8:2). Obviously, we should be nearby and watching as our children talk with strangers – but we should allow them to do such.
If you are a parent, God has given you a mighty weapon. Use your children as arrows in the hand of a mighty man.
