Luke 23:35 And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.
When they derided the Lord, they actually were making a true statement. He did save others – but he could not have saved them if he saved himself. If the Lord Jesus Christ would have saved himself from the death on the cross, we would not have had someone to take our punishment for us. We would have had to take our own punishment for sin.
Thank you Lord Jesus for putting us first. Let us learn from your example and put others before our own selves.
