If it worked the first time, will it work the second?

1 Chronicles 14:9-10 (KJV) And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. 10 And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.

1 Chronicles 14:13-14 (KJV) And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley. 14 Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

If you find yourself in a situation you’ve faced before, don’t just assume that God will direct you in the same way as he did previously. David was wise to seek God’s direction again the second time the Philistines spread themselves in the valley against Israel. David could have assumed God would deliver the Philistines into his hand in the same way as the first time, but God chose not to give victory to David in the same way.
