Spurgeon on becoming a Baptist

Friday, March 24th, 2006 at 1:52 pm

He said he became a Baptist because of studying the New Testament in Greek. “According to my reading of Holy Scripture, the believer in Christ should be buried with Him in baptism, and so enter upon his open Christian life.”

Spurgeon’s mother once proclaimed, “Ah, Charles! I often prayed the Lord to make you a Christian, but I never asked that you become a Baptist.”

Spurgeon with a smile responded quickly, “Ah, mother! The Lord has answered your prayer with His usual bounty, and given you exceeding abundantly above what you asked or thought.”
