God wrote it

Saturday, January 22nd, 2005 at 8:40 pm

Exodus 34:1 (KJV) And the LORD said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest.

God said he would write on the tables of stone. Later in the chapter we see Moses writing on the tables of stone:

Exodus 34:28 (KJV) And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

God said he would write but Moses did the writing. Does that mean God lied? No. God wrote using Moses. All scripture was written by God using human instruments.

The Strength of Sin

Saturday, January 22nd, 2005 at 11:48 am

1 Corinthians 15:56 (KJV) The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

Is the law called the strength of sin because people stay in their sin because they are trying to keep the law or is the law called the strength of sin because the law tells us what our sin is and the law makes it more evident (strengthens the evidence) that we are sinners?

This is the context of the verse in question:

1 Corinthians 15:55-57 (KJV) O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Also, consider these related passages:

Romans 7:4-9 (KJV) Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. 5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. 6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. 7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. 8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. 9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

Romans 5:20 (KJV) Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

Galatians 3:24 (KJV) Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Based on the context and these related passages, the law is the strength of sin because the law strengthens the evidence of the fact that we all are sinners in need of a saviour.

Evolution is a religion

Saturday, January 22nd, 2005 at 11:28 am

Recently, a U.S. District Judge ordered the removal of a sticker from Cobb County, Georgia science textbooks. The following is the text of the sticker that the Cobb County, Georgia Board of Education had developed and approved for placement on the science textbooks:

This textbook contains material on evolution. Evolution is a theory, not a fact, regarding the origin of living things. This material should be approached with an open mind, studied carefully, and critically considered.

The judge ordered the removal of the sticker because he claims it is an unconstitutional endorsement of religion. This sticker does no such thing. It simply stated the truth. After all, don’t scientists claim they approach their work with an open mind, study the evidence carefully, and critically consider the results of their experiments? Isn’t that what scientists do? This ruling reveals the real nature of belief in evolution – evolution is a religion believed by its adherents not because there is overwhelming, hard evidence to support it but rather because they know if evolution is not true there is only one alternative and that alternative is unacceptable to them.

It’s time our courts quit forcing the religion of evolution on us.
