Scripture overrules tradition

Tuesday, May 18th, 2004 at 9:58 pm

2 Peter 1:19 (KJV) We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

Prior to this verse, Peter is relating his own personal experiences. He then proceeds to tell us that the scriptures are more sure than even his words, the words of an apostle of Jesus Christ. Tradition is not on the same level nor is it above what is taught in the scriptures. The Bible rules.

Moses had faith in Jesus Christ

Wednesday, May 5th, 2004 at 3:43 pm

Hebrews 11:24-26 (KJV) By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaohs daughter; 25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; 26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.

You cannot prove biblical creation

Wednesday, May 5th, 2004 at 3:19 pm

Hebrews 11:3 (KJV) Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Now hold on. I didn’t say Genesis 1 was not literally true. I believe Genesis 1 just as it is written. What I am saying and what this verse says is that we know Genesis 1 is true because of faith. We do not and cannot know Genesis 1 to be true because we find scientific evidence that proves it. We can find evidence (the same evidence the evolutionists have) that coincides with the biblical accounts – but we cannot scientifically state this evidence proves Genesis 1. We can only believe Genesis 1 because of faith. Of course, evolutionists can only believe evolution because of faith. They have the same evidence we do – same fossils, same rock layers. But evolutionists put their faith in what man says that evidence means and we put our faith in what God says that evidence means. That reminds me of the very central verse of the Bible

Psalm 118:8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

Mary, the mother of God?

Saturday, May 1st, 2004 at 9:18 pm

Hebrews 7:3 (KJV) Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

Some religions call Mary the mother of God because she gave birth to Jesus. This passage is talking about Jesus and says he is without father and without mother. The flesh of Jesus had no genetic information from a human father and had no genetic information from a human mother. He was supernaturally conceived. Mary is not the mother of God.
