The gospel was preached in Old Testament times

Wednesday, April 28th, 2004 at 1:53 pm

Hebrews 4:2 (KJV) For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

“Them” refers back to chapter 3 where we read about the Israelites in the wilderness. They were not saved by works or sacrifices. They too had to trust in Jesus Christ as saviour.

Not just the elect

Monday, April 26th, 2004 at 1:56 pm

Hebrews 2:9 (KJV) But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

Jesus tasted death for every man – not just the ones who trust in him as saviour. Jesus paid the sin debt for everyone. Those who reject him are in effect throwing money away.

Jesus alone

Sunday, April 25th, 2004 at 3:25 pm

Hebrews 1:3 (KJV) Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

It is Jesus alone that saves. Nothing we do or anything anyone else does for us can save us.

In the jungle

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men.

Romans 1:19-20 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handywork.

Psalm 97:6 The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.

Romans 10:17-18 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

So even in the deepest, darkest jungle, God makes himself known.

Jesus is God

Wednesday, April 21st, 2004 at 1:29 pm

Titus 1:3-4 (KJV) But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour; 4 To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

Verse 3 says is God is our Saviour. Verse 4 says Jesus Christ is our Saviour. If a=b and b=c, then a=c. Jesus is God.
