Opposing yourself

Monday, January 19th, 2004 at 2:15 pm

Acts 18:6 (KJV) And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

If you don’t believe the gospel and the gift of salvation without works, you are rejecting God’s word. If you reject God’s word, you reject Jesus Christ. When you reject Jesus Christ, you are fighting against yourself – you oppose yourself.

Only one human race?

Monday, January 19th, 2004 at 1:42 pm

Acts 17:26 (KJV) And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

All men are of one blood. There is not a white race, a black race, an Indian race, an Asian race, an aborigine race. We are all the same.

Search the scriptures daily

Monday, January 19th, 2004 at 1:34 pm

Acts 17:11 (KJV) These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Studying the word of God every day is certainly a noble pursuit. Each person must do so on his own. We cannot just rely on hearing from a preacher – we need to verify from the scriptures what the preacher says – no matter how great the preacher may be. Remember, God’s word says the Bereans were noble for verifying what Paul – arguably the greatest preacher of all – told them. If you truly are a Christian with the indwelling Holy Spirit, those who tell you that you can’t understand the scriptures on your own are lying to you and are trying to teach a false way.

Turn the world upside down

Monday, January 19th, 2004 at 1:28 pm

Acts 17:6 (KJV) And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

The preaching of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ will turn the world upside down. When a person hears and receives the gospel, he becomes a new creature. Old things are passed away. He or she has new desires and old desires are put away. He or she begins to act different, talk different, dress different. His or her world is not the same. God is exalted. That certainly is upside down from the present world.

All thy house and baby-sprinklers

Monday, January 19th, 2004 at 1:19 pm

Acts 16:31 (KJV) And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Some who practice baby “baptism” use this verse as justification. Even though scripture does not mention any babies, pedobaptists believe that the phrase “all thy house” would indicate that babies or toddlers were present. Not only is it bad practice to develop teachings on what one reads between the lines of scriptures, if one were to take the verse in context and read further, one would see that scripture does in fact tell us that babies were not present. Read verse 34:

And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

Notice it states that all his house believed in God – something a baby could not do.
