The names of the wicked are not remembered

Proverbs 10:7 (KJV) The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

In Luke 16, we read about the beggar named Lazarus and the rich man. Lazarus died and went to Paradise and the rich man died and went to Hell. The just man’s name (Lazarus) was remembered while the wicked man’s name (the rich man) was not.

Psalm 9:5 (KJV) Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.

It’s the thought that counts?

Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

I’ve heard people say that it’s the thought or intent of God’s Word that really matters and not the actual words. The jot and tittle are the smallest part of the Hebrew written word – not the spoken word. Jesus tells us in this passage that the even the smallest part of the written word will not pass away. Jesus puts emphasis on the written word and not just the thought or intent behind the word.
