Beggars

Tuesday, October 28th, 2003 at 12:00 am

What do you do when you see a poor beggar? Do you avoid making eye contact and walk quickly away? Do you justify that by thinking the beggar just doesn’t want to work? Do you know that for sure? Have you asked?

Proverbs 21:13 (KJV) Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.

Proverbs 28:27 (KJV) He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

Psalms 41:1 (KJV) Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.

What Can You Answer?

Saturday, October 25th, 2003 at 12:00 am

When you die and face God and do not have the righteousness of Jesus Christ, you will be unable to say anything in your defense. You will be speechless.

Matthew 22:12 (KJV) And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

With God all things are possible

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2003 at 3:53 pm

I’m sure we’ve all heard this. But many times, we never look at the context of this verse. The disciples were questioning the Lord Jesus Christ about eternal life.

Matthew 19:25-26 (KJV) When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? 26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

In answer to the question of who can be saved, Jesus said no man can save himself – but God can save all men, any man – even the vilest of sinners.

Are you trying to save yourself? Jesus said this was impossible. You can’t do it. Going to church can’t do it. Getting baptized can’t do it. Giving money can’t do it. Helping others can’t do it. Only God can do it. By his grace, he gives you the faith to believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross for your sins and rose again the third day. Have you accepted the free gift of eternal life? The price has already been paid. You can reject it or you can accept it.

He made me do it

Tuesday, October 21st, 2003 at 12:00 am

Have you ever heard someone try to excuse their misdeeds by saying the reason he or she did it was because someone else did something? He or she is in effect saying that what he or she did was right. God does not allow us to excuse our misbehavior by pushing the blame to someone else.

Proverbs 21:2 (KJV) Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

The resurrection and new body taught in the Old Testament

Monday, October 20th, 2003 at 12:00 am

Psalm 17:15 (KJV) As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

Psalm 71:20 (KJV) Thou, which hast showed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth.

It’s too cold and dark

Monday, October 20th, 2003 at 12:00 am

One Wednesday evening as I was driving home from church, I passed by a corn field and the farmer was out there in the darkness with the headlights on working to bring in his harvest. God used this picture to remind me of this verse:

Proverbs 20:4 (KJV) The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

Do you use the cold of winter or the darkness of night as an excuse to not work in your field which is white already to harvest? Do you neglect soul-winning when the cold temperatures come and the nightfall comes early? If so, is it any wonder that you are not bringing in much of a harvest?

Statues of saints or Mary

Monday, October 20th, 2003 at 12:00 am

When the Lord Jesus Christ took Peter, James, & John into the mountain and Moses and Elias appeared, Peter wanted to build 3 tabernacles: 1 for Jesus, 1 for Moses, & 1 for Elias.

Matthew 17:4 (KJV) Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

This act of Peter’s prompted the following response from God the Father:

Matthew 17:5 (KJV) While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Peter put Moses & Elias on the same level as the Lord Jesus Christ. God the Father responded by saying we should listen to Jesus. Statues of saints and Mary take the focus off of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Telling unfruitful Christians from false Christians in your church

Friday, October 17th, 2003 at 12:00 am

Matthew 13:24-29 (KJV) 24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: 25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. 26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. 27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? 28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? 29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

Evidently, we cannot tell the unfruitful from the false. Otherwise, Jesus would not be concerned that while segregating the wheat from the tares, we might incorrectly remove the wheat.

PETA

Wednesday, October 15th, 2003 at 12:00 am

Matthew 12:12 (KJV) How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

PETA thinks humans are on an equal basis as animals. Here the Lord Jesus Christ tells us that we are better than animals. Now, that does not give us the right to mistreat and abuse animals. We are to have dominion over them as good stewards.

The myth of global warming

Saturday, October 11th, 2003 at 12:00 am

Genesis 8:22 (KJV) While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Cold & heat, summer & winter shall not cease while the earth remaineth.
