Mary: What Does The Bible Say?

Sunday, October 1st, 1995 at 12:00 am

Roman Catholics around the world are urging Pope John Paul II to officially declare a new dogma about Mary. This dogma would bestow on Mary the titles of Co-Redemptrix, Mediatrix, and Advocate. This means that Mary is a part, source, or path of salvation for sinners. What does the Bible say? I’m glad you asked.

(Acts 4:10-12) Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Here we see that the name of Jesus is the only name given among men whereby we must be saved. If there is only one name and that name is Jesus, Mary can not be a co-redeemer. After all, “co” indicates more than one and God’s word tells us there is only one. By the way, Peter is the one speaking in the above passage.

God also tells us in The Bible that Jesus is the only mediator: (1 Timothy 2:5-6)

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”

Once again we see God using the word “one.” If the Lord Jesus Christ is the one mediator, then Mary cannot be a mediator.

Jesus Christ himself tells us that he is the only way to the Father: (John 14:6)

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

As you can see, the three greatest preachers in the New Testament, Peter, Paul, and the Lord Jesus, tell us things that contradict what the Catholics want to teach. It is time people began to believe God’s word and quit trying to use the frail human mind to rationalize his word.
